Rwandans in Qatar Cast Their Votes in the Rwandan Presidential and Parliamentary Elections
On 14th July 2024, Rwandans living abroad, including those in Qatar, gathered to vote in the presidential and parliamentary elections. The voting for Rwandans in Qatar took place at the Embassy of Rwanda in Qatar from 7 am to 7 pm. This was the first time in Rwanda's history that both presidential and parliamentary elections were held on the same day.
The Rwandan community in Qatar, made up mostly of young people, was excited about voting, many for the first time. Some Rwandans even traveled from other countries to take part. Nishimwe Jerome, living in Kuwait, traveled to Qatar to vote. He said, "Loving your country means stepping up to choose its leaders. Your participation is crucial! Voting is a source of pride and a declaration of your support for your nation."
On 15th July, the elections continued in Rwanda, where citizens elected their president and members of the Chamber of Deputies. The final candidates for president were Paul Kagame, Frank Habineza, and Philippe Mpayimana, an independent.
Overall, the elections went well, showing the commitment and pride of Rwandans in their democratic process.
