The Duty to Protect the Truth: Insights from Georgetown's Panel Discussion
On April 22nd, 2024, Georgetown University in Qatar, in partnership with Our Past Initiative, hosted a panel discussion at the university's library. Academics, students, and members of the Rwandan community in Qatar gathered to explore the theme, "The Duty to Protect the Truth."
Led by Research Professional Tom Ndahiro, the discussion delved into the history of the Genocide Against the Tutsi, its preparation, and execution. Joined by esteemed panelists including Dr. Eric Ndushabandi, Dr. Frederick Golooba, and Dr. Mustafa, topics ranged from the importance of truth-telling in building Rwanda post-genocide to strategies for combatting genocide denial, the crucial role of preserving memory through objective research, and proactive measures to prevent future atrocities in our modern world.
The session was an enlightening moment, fostering learning and understanding among attendees. As participants left, they carried with them a renewed commitment to upholding truth and honoring memory, ensuring that the lessons of history are never forgotten.
